Fleetguard Presents 25 Laptop Computers to Tennessee State University Honor Students

30 MAY 05 -- Fleetguard Inc., the global filtration, exhaust, coolant and chemical specialist for diesel and gas powered equipment, has presented Tennessee State University's (TSU) Honors Program with 25 laptop computers.

The two-year-old partnership between Fleetguard and TSU provides top students with real-world work experience while giving Fleetguard opportunities to recruit TSU's best and brightest. The TSU Honors Program offers the university's academically talented students an advanced curriculum that includes opportunities for critical analysis, creative achievement and intensive research.

Rick Mills, President of Cummins Components Group, which includes Fleetguard Inc., presented each student with an HP NX9020 laptop with carrying case and software. Mills thanked TSU President James A. Hefner for his leadership, vision and execution on opportunities and programs that benefit students.

Hefner praised the partnership between TSU and Fleetguard, saying, "These experiences are invaluable because they help them make the connection between the classroom and the corporate world. We appreciate our ongoing partnership with Fleetguard."

"A key component of this program involves exposing our students to 'real world' corporate and business environments. It ultimately improves the quality of a student's professional growth" said Dr. Sandra Holt, Director of the TSU Honors Program.

Christine Tolliver, Employee Involvement Leader at Fleetguard, said the internship program with TSU has allowed the company to tap into the top talent market for employment opportunities at Fleetguard. "We hired four of our TSU interns from last year, and as a result of the caliber of students in summer our internship program, we will be implementing a Management Development Program for graduating interns." Fleetguard has already hired five new TSU interns for the summer: April Thomas, Josef Robinson, Bryan Lowe, Andre Moore and George Larca.

"We have many long-term partnerships-with our distributors, suppliers, educational partners-so this how we continue to create and keep win-win partnerships," said Rocio Rodriguez, Vice President of Human Resources at Fleetguard.

Fleetguard Inc. is a wholly owned business unit of Cummins Inc. and the world's leading designer and manufacturer of heavy-duty air, fuel, hydraulic and lube filtration, chemicals and exhaust system technology products for diesel and gas powered equipment.
