FleetguardFIT Reduces Maintenance Cost for Marine Customer: Case Study
The Challenge
To help reduce maintenance costs, the owner of a dry cargo marine vessel (M/S Hendrika) in the Netherlands took part in an evaluation designed to extend the service interval of the vessel's engine oil and filters. Another aim was to reduce CO₂ emissions and decrease the impact on landfills.
The Solution
FleetguardFIT™ (Filtration Intelligence Technology) real-time oil and filter monitoring equipment was installed on the vessel’s engine. Prior to the installation, oil and filters were serviced every 800 hours. FleetguardFIT extended the maintenance interval to 1500 hours and reduced the carbon footprint of the business.
The Benefits
- FleetguardFIT reduced maintenance costs and downtime by 50%.
- Timely alerts of critical issues now help prevent unexpected high repair costs, potential breakdown and loss of income for this dry goods transportation business.
- Increased compliance with carbon reduction legislation in the marine sector will enable the vessel owner to win more business going forward.
"FleetguardFIT has extended our maintenance interval to 1500 hours, which will most certainly have an impact on our oil and filter costs. And according to the data provided by the system, we can even extend beyond that interval" - Mr. de Boer, owner of M/S Hendrik
About FleetguardFIT™
FleetguardFIT is a real-time monitoring and anomaly detection solution for engine oil and filters, allowing customers to service consumables only when necessary. As well as extending the life of oil and filters, FleetguardFIT saves time and money by maximizing equipment uptime.
Customers can monitor the status of oil and filters via the FleetguardFIT portal. Fleet owners can track per vehicle/vessel, detecting (and alerting the customer of) issues before they become an expensive maintenance issue.
"The right filters on high horsepower engines can last two, four or even eight times longer than manufacturer's recommendations. What's more, predictive maintenance based on real-world conditions can save thousands in unplanned downtime per vessel per year, which can be significant for a fleet owner," Paul Louwe, Senior Technical Support Engineer.
